Basic Craps Sayings
Here is a list of the most commonly used craps glossary terms. Online craps is a table game you may easily get lost with when it comes to the slang used at the craps table. Do not panic. Our craps dictionary will have you navigating your way around the table in no time. Browse through our list of terms and phrases you will need to know to master the game. However, there may also be more uncommon craps slang terms you may come across that we do not list below.
Online Craps Glossary
Aces: A bet made that the next roll will be the total sum of 2 (the next roll will be two Aces).
Any Craps: A bet that the next roll will either be a 2, 3 or 12. This bet has a payout ratio of 7:1.
Any Seven: A bet made on the probability that the next roll will be 7.
Betting Right: This is a bet that is placed with the dice and is made on the outcome of the dice passing.
Betting Wrong: A bet that is placed against the dice and is made on the possibility that the dice doesn’t pass the “Don’t Pass Line”.
Big Eight: A bet that is made on the outcome of an eight being rolled before a seven. This bet has a payout ratio of 1:1 and is, therefore, an even money bet.
Bet Six: A bet that is made on the outcome of a six being rolled before a seven. This bet has a payout ratio of 1:1.
Box Car: A bet that is made on the probability of the next roll being a 12.
Buy Bets: A bet that is made on the possibility of a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 being rolled before a 7 after a roll.
Big Red: A bet that is made on the outcome of a 7 landing before the next roll.
Center Bets: These are bets that are placed in the centre of the table and are also referred to as proposition bets.
Come Out Roll: This is the first roll in a game of craps and is often referred to as the “Come Out Roll.
Come Bet: A bet that is made after the “Come Out Roll” and is similar to the “Pass Line” bet.
Don’t Come Bet: A bet that is made after the “Come out Roll”. It is a bet made on the possibility of the dice not passing. The player will win with this bet if the dice lands on 2 or 3, will lose this bet if dice lands on 7 or 11 and will tie if the dice lands on 12.
Don’t Pass Bet: A bet that is made after the “Come Out Roll”. It’s a bet made on the probability of the dice not passing. The player will win if the dice lands on 2 or 3, and will lose if the dice lands on 7 or 11.
Double Odds: When a player makes this bet, it is double the amount of the original bet.
Even Money: A term used to refer to a bet that has a payout ratio of 1:1.
Field Bet: A bet on the probability of the next roll landing a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
Free Odds Bet: A bet that is made on true odds.
Hard-way Bet: This is a bet based on the probability that the dice will land on the same values. These values must add up to 4, 6, 8, or 10.
Hop Bet: This is a wager on the probability that the dice will displace a number that is not included in the centre layout of the table.
Horn Bet: This is a wager made on the possibility of the dice landing on either a 2, 3, 11, or 12 and is a single-roll bet.
Lay Bet: This is a bet made on the probability of the dice landing on a 7 before 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
Line Bet: Refers to any wager that is made on either the “Pass Line” or “Don’t Pass Line”.
Max Bet: Refers to the maximum amount a player is able to wager during a game of craps.
Minimum Bet: Refers to the minimum amount a player is able to wager during a game of craps.
Pass Line Bet: This is a wager that is based on the dice passing and the outcome of roll being 7 or 11.
Place Bet: This is a wager that is placed in the box numbers area of the craps table. It is made on the probability of a 7 being rolled before a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
Point: Refers the number that is fixed by the “Come Out Roll”. This number can be 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
Proposition Bet: Also known as a Centre bet. It is placed on the middle area of the table.
Shooter: Term used to refer to the person who is rolling the dice during a game of craps.
Single Roll Bet: A bet that depends on just a single roll of the dice.
